Want to live a healthier, longer life? If so, there are some simple changes to your lifestyle you might want to consider. Some of these will apply to you; some of them won’t. But rest assured, if you tick everything off here, you will increase your chances of living for more years than you would if you ignore the advice. Ready to make the changes? Then let’s get started right away.
Get up, stand up
We spend an inordinate amount of time chained to our work desks these days – and it isn’t good for us. You can expect your posture to get worse, probably strain your eyes, and it also cuts your life expectancy. So get up and move around – for at least a minute every hour. Even if you think you are fit and do a lot of exercises, if you aren’t moving around from your desk it can cause you problems. According to research, you should be walking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day – so perhaps a pedometer might be a worthwhile purchase.
Cigarettes and alcohol
Cigarettes and alcohol are more likely to kill you than anything else that you can consume. And, that includes hard drugs like cocaine and heroin. If you are a smoker, you can expect lung and respiratory problems, clogged arteries, and, not to put too fine a point on it, horrific breath. Try vaping instead. We are still waiting for long-term evidence to come in, but most in the medical community would agree that it causes less damage than smoking. It’s cheaper than buying cigarettes, too, and there are plenty of vaping liquid flavours to suit anyone’s taste. With regards to alcohol, there is evidence to suggest that a little drink a day might help prolong your life. However, any more of that and you could see liver damage, heart problems, and other severe health conditions.
We gotta get out of this place
Fact one: we are working longer hours these days than ever before. Fact two: reports of stress-related illness are on the rise. Think that’s a coincidence? There is a lot of evidence that suggests that working too hard can be damaging to your health. So, if your days at work are stressful, it’s going to open up a world of health issues, such as increasing your chances of a stroke. So – work less, be more efficient with your productivity, and leave the office at the office. Never take it home with you, as much as you possibly can
Let’s talk about sex
Evidence suggests that people who have more sex can add up to two years more to their lives. So, have more sex. It’s a life-saving gift, and, honestly, I can’t think of a better excuse for trying your luck more often.
Dancing in the street
There is an obvious benefit to dancing – it’s a great way to work out and get your exercise. But it’s also a very social thing you can do, and having strong social bonds is another way of increasing your life expectancy. So, the next time someone invites you out the nightclub, maybe you should feel a little better about going.
